Christmas Trees - Christmas Day Walk

The end of 2012 was fast approaching and I realised, due to various circumstances, I had not visited the hills for one weekend walk.  In preparation for my Acorns Children's Hospice charity Sahara Desert trek 2010, and trek to the home of the Dalai Lama 2011, I walked the hills at least once a week.  I had not planned a charity trek for 2012, and what with the unexpected life presents to challenge and test us, I realised Christmas Eve I had missed my walks.  Prepared to spend Christmas day alone I found inspiration to lay out trekking gear ready to hit the hills.

Christmas morning I woke fairly early.  I felt some dread towards treading the hills, to face the reality of my unfitness. I pulled on trekking trousers, tied up the boots and packed plenty of water.  I  thought I would claim the hills for myself but was surprised to discover how many others ventured out Christmas day.  I was also pleasantly surprised I had not lost determination and managed reasonably well, considering my lack of exercise during 2012.

The air was fresh, cold and mind clearing.  Sky colour and cloud texture changed from clear blues and cotton clouds, to grey and misty then back to blues.  Trees were bare but resembled real Christmas trees in my mind.  Driving back home for Christmas, I stopped to capture the sun which was blinding but stunning.  I had no lens filters but was sure my sunglasses would help me capture the stunning sky, which made me feel warm inside and out.
